What we collect

If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address, plus a short tag for where you came to us from (for example, the page that referred you). That tag carries no personal information. When you submit the form we also record a couple of technical details to prevent abuse — see “Technical details when you submit” below.

If you have a Fairyard account, we store your email and an account identifier so you can sign in, along with the farm records you choose to enter — your mobs, movements, inputs and compliance records.

Why we collect it

Your email lets us contact you about launch and gauge interest. Account details and the records you enter operate the service and send you account-related emails. Your email is the only thing we need — without it we can't add you to the waitlist or run an account for you.

Analytics

We use Umami to understand which pages are visited and how the site is used. Umami is configured to be cookieless, and the usage events we record carry no personally identifying information — no email, no name, and no other field that could identify you.

Technical details when you submit

When you submit the waitlist form we record two technical details, used only to detect and prevent abuse such as rapid repeat submissions. We don't store your raw IP address — instead we store a one-way, salted SHA-256 hash of it. We also store your browser's User-Agent: the short line of text a browser sends that identifies the browser and device type (it isn't your name or email).

The IP hash is pseudonymised and not stored in a directly identifying form, and we use it only for abuse prevention.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it for advertising. We do use a small number of service providers to run Fairyard — Google Cloud (hosting and storage), Umami (analytics), and an email provider for account and waitlist emails. They handle your data only to provide those services to us, under their own terms.

Where it lives and overseas access

Waitlist entries and accounts are held in Google Cloud Firestore in Australia (australia-southeast1); aggregated market data in Google Cloud Storage; analytics in Umami. Some of these providers are global, so your data may be accessed or stored outside Australia in the course of providing the service. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

How we keep it safe

Access to your data is restricted and authenticated, data is encrypted in transit, and writes to your records go through a controlled server layer rather than direct client access. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist details until you ask to be removed or they are no longer needed, and account data while your account is active. Some compliance and traceability records are kept for up to seven years so they remain available for audit and to meet livestock record-keeping obligations; where that applies we keep the record even if you close your account.

If something goes wrong

If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Future features that involve sharing

If we ever add a feature that would share your information with a third party — for example, connecting you with a buyer — we will ask for your consent and update this policy before doing so.

Your rights and complaints

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, remove yourself from the waitlist, delete your account, or unsubscribe from emails by contacting us. If you think we've mishandled your information, contact us first and we'll work to put it right; you can also complain to the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.
